Galvquodi Gatasdi Lounge Chair
Council Seat
The “Council Seat” is a wood and upholstered chair that takes its inspiration from the Cherokee council houses, where leaders would meet to make important decisions for the tribe. The chair has a robust, commanding presence, with a frame made from hand-carved wood. The backrest is slightly reclined, offering comfort and support, and the arms are wide, providing a strong foundation.
The council house is the heart of decision-making in Cherokee culture, a place where leaders gather to discuss the future of their people. The “Council Seat” was designed to reflect this important role, providing a place of contemplation and wisdom.
Cray Bauxmont-Flynn crafted this chair to symbolize leadership and community, drawing on his heritage to create a piece that honors both tradition and modern design. The chair is intended for use in homes or spaces where people gather to share ideas and make decisions. A portion of the proceeds from the “Council Seat” chair supports educational programs focused on Native American governance and leadership.
